Jorge Martin won the Austrian MotoGP Sprint on September 19 after recovering from eighth on the opening lap, moving back ahead of Marc Marquez in the championship.
The Aprilia rider had led into the first corner before losing ground in the opening exchanges. He worked back through the field and passed Marquez for second, then inherited the lead when Pedro Acosta crashed with three laps remaining.
Marquez finished second and Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium. Ai Ogura took fourth, ahead of Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia.
The result left Martin three points clear of Marquez at the end of Saturday. That margin describes the standings after the Sprint; the Austrian Grand Prix is a separate race.
For KTM, Acosta’s late fall turned a strong home performance into a missed scoring opportunity. Martin’s recovery ensured Aprilia converted a difficult opening lap into a valuable result in the title fight.
