The Official Charts has unveiled a massive lineup for New Music Friday on February 27, 2026, characterizing it as one of the most significant release days of the year. The schedule is headlined by major returns from global superstars, including Bruno Mars, virtual band icons Gorillaz, and K-pop phenomenon BLACKPINK, setting the stage for a highly competitive week on the Official Albums Chart.
Leading the charge is Bruno Mars, who returns with his first solo studio album since 2016, titled The Romantic. The record, which features the Top 5 hit single I Just Might, is widely expected to challenge for the Number 1 spot. Industry analysts note that The Romantic could secure Mars a hat-trick of UK chart-toppers, following the success of his previous solo efforts Doo-Wops & Hooligans and Unorthodox Jukebox.
Another major contender for the top spot is Gorillaz, who have released their ninth studio album, The Mountain. Known for their collaborative ethos, the virtual band’s latest project features an eclectic guest list including Johnny Marr, Sparks, Paul Simonon, and IDLES. The album follows their 2023 chart-topper Cracker Island and sees the band exploring new sonic territories influenced by their recent travels.
K-pop quartet BLACKPINK also makes a high-profile return with their new EP, DEADLINE. Following their 2022 Number 1 album BORN PINK, the group—comprising Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa—aims to dominate streaming platforms. The EP includes their 2025 Top 20 single JUMP and the new focus track GO, cementing their status as a global pop powerhouse.
In the alternative space, acclaimed singer-songwriter Mitski releases her eighth studio album, Nothing’s About To Happen To Me. This follows her commercially successful 2023 album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, which peaked at Number 4 in the UK. Other notable album releases confirmed by the Official Charts Company include Bill Callahan’s My Days Of 58, Iron & Wine’s Hen’s Teeth, and Motorpsycho’s The Gaia II Space Corps.
On the singles front, the competition is equally fierce. Fresh off securing the first Number 1 single of 2026 with WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!, RAYE returns with Nightingale Lane. The track serves as the latest cut from her upcoming second studio album, THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE, scheduled for release later in March. This release comes just days before her scheduled performance at the BRIT Awards in Manchester, adding significant momentum to her campaign.
Other key single releases include Alex Warren’s “Fever Dream,” Ava Max’s “KiLL it QUEEN,” and Laufey’s “How I Get.” Melanie Martinez also drops “DISNEY PRINCESS,” while Skye Newman releases “Walk,” hoping to secure her fourth Top 40 hit.
The new releases enter a chart landscape currently dominated by Sam Fender and Olivia Dean, whose collaboration Rein Me In has held the Number 1 position on the Official Singles Chart for multiple weeks. With such a high volume of premium content dropping simultaneously, the Official Charts anticipates significant volatility and high streaming numbers across the board for the week ending February 27, 2026.
